Our feet are similar to the wheels on a car – If the alignment is not correct it places excessive strain and pressure on other body parts leading to wear and tear.
Orthotics are custom-made shoe inserts designed, developed and manufactured to improve the alignment of the feet and lower limbs while standing, walking and running.
People often report pain in the feet but pain can also occur in the legs, knees, hips ad lower back as a result of poor foot function. By restoring correct foot function, often associated pain can be relieved or prevented.
Your Podiatrist will complete a Biomechanical Assessment, including computerized gait analysis, to determine the alignment and function of your feet and it’s relation the rest of the body. A customized plaster mould is then taken of both feet and your orthotics are accurately prescribed to assists in realigning your feet.
There are several types of orthotics and in some cases your Podiatrist may prescribe generic, or ‘off-the-shelf’ orthotics, or semi-custom made orthotics depending on the level of correction required in your particular case.
The orthotics are placed in your shoes and worn as much as possible in order to assist in correcting your foot function.
